A history:
● Westbury is partly named after the River Trym that flows through it. Its origins predate those of Bristol itself. At the end
of the eighth century, King Offa of Mercia granted land at Westbury to his minister, Aethelmund;
● The monastery became a college with a dean and canons, and it was restored in
the 20th century when the grounds were adapted for housing elderly people;
|
 |
● The church of the Holy Trinity dates from 1194, but there has been a place of worship on the site since the 8th century. Westbury’s appeal is that it manages to retain a village atmosphere in the city.
TODAY it may be a suburb of Bristol, but Westbury-on-Trym is much older than the city by some years. Among its charming shops
is Westbury Veg in Carlton Court.
It is a lively shop with friendly staff, which all help to capture Westbury’s character. |
